This week we’re reading ‘One Wish’ by Maria Duffy.

One Wish by Maria Duffy

One Wish by Maria Duffy (Hachette Books Ireland, €13.99)
Author Claudia Carroll called Maria’s latest read “funny, moving, thought-provoking and yet at times so sharply funny and observant too… Trust me, you’ll end up dropping everything to finish this, just like I did,” so we wanted to get our hands (and eyes) on this novel.

The plot centres on Londoner Becky Greene who moves to Ireland for a fresh start. However, her fresh start includes being pregnant after a one-night stand, and suddenly she’s thinking about more than herself.

Move forward four years and daughter Lilly has questions about her father – understandably – as mammy Becky tries to answer them. She locaters businessman Dennis Prendergast to discover just how differently their lives have turned out.

One Wish focuses on whether people can really change and whether those changes make them better people or not.

At times funny, at times bittersweet, One Wish is a definite summer read that’ll have you reaching for Maria’s other books (we recommend The Terrace).
